To ascend Scala Santa in Rome, the pilgrims will have to pay 1 Euro, reports the Guardian.
Holy Stairs (Scala Santa) are the marble steps of the old Lateran palace, now nonexistent.
According to the legend, the stairs were brought in 326 from Jerusalem by Holy Helena, as it was taken from the palace of Pontius Pilate, and Jesus Christ went up the staircase to the court.
The fact is that the unique 16th century frescoes on the walls along the stairs are under the threat extinction, that is why the fee will be charged.
Each year two million pilgrims come here to ascend the stairs on their knees, the stairs consist of 28 steps.
